How the restaurant picker works
- Set how many miles you’re willing to travel, from half a mile up to 25.
- Tap Find restaurants near me and allow location when your browser asks.
- The wheel fills with restaurants in range. If there are more than 24, it shows a random 24. Tap Pick a different set for another batch.
- Spin. The winner comes with its distance and a link for directions.
Questions
Where does the restaurant list come from?
From OpenStreetMap, a free map built by volunteers. Big cities are covered well. Smaller towns can be missing places, so add any favorites by hand.
Is my location stored?
No. Your browser shares it once, it’s rounded to about a city block, and it’s sent to OpenStreetMap’s search service to find restaurants. This site doesn’t receive or keep it.
Why do chains only show up once?
If a chain has several locations in range, the wheel keeps only the closest one so it doesn’t crowd out everything else.
Location isn’t working. What can I do?
Check that location is allowed for this site in your browser settings and that location services are on for your device. You can always type restaurants in yourself.
